I’m content enough to have started this little Internet diary, or blog, as it is commonly called. In reality, I have no intention to keep a real diary, just a space where I can put my reflections and thoughts into words.
The first reflection that comes up to my mind, today, is the concern for my older son, Shotfire. He’s a Leader of Robocity since last year, and he will keep the position until 2014. I always thought to do him good by nominating him my successor in the leadership of the city, but he doesn’t seem so thrilled by it. He continuously reminds me of the taken decision, he says he never wanted to be a Leader and he never will; he wants to live a different life, he wants to marry Carol, adopt Daniele and leave Robocity.
On the contrary, I always thought he had the skills for the position. Despite of his rash character, Shotfire is a good boy, and under certain aspects, he knows how to take on his responsibilities. When he was a kid, he used to idolize me as a great Leader, he was telling me all the time that he wished to be like me, one day… I have never forgotten his words, and for that reason I acted as everyone knows. After all, my proposal for the nomination of Shotfire wouldn’t have been taken into consideration without the approval of all the citizens of Robocity. Shotfire accuses me of having “forced” him into Leadership, that the decision had been taken without hearing from him first. But… the right moment of the nomination of the chosen ones, he hadn’t opposed any resistance. He had accepted the nomination without a word, even though he was wearing a thoughtful look on his face. All of this, plus Shotfire’s recent behaviour, make me wonder… At this point, there are only two possibilities: either Shotfire has always done his best to look good in my eyes (and from this, his words as a child and the silent acceptance of the Leadership, though not wanted), or he’s really interested into the role, but he’s held back by fear. If the latter is true, overcoming the fear won’t be easy, but with some patience and understanding he can turn out to be a great Leader; on the contrary, if he did it only to look good in front of me… I fear that soon a Special Session of the Leaders will have to be put up for the nomination of a replacement.
I will talk to my son about all of this. He must realize that this is not an issue to be taken with superficiality… Shotfire must grow up.
